Things to consider when thinking about getting Coaching Supervision

How many hours are you coaching or expect to coach in a year?

Check the guidelines of your coaching body, of course you may choose to surpass that for that restorative function of coaching. For example, the current Association for Coaching guidelines for supervision are as follows

Foundation Coach/Executive Coach:15:1

Professional Coach/Professional Executive Coach: 30:1

Master Coach/Master Executive Coach: 40:1

Do you want to work consistently with one supervisor over a period of time?

Two key benefits to this approach are that:

  • You build a relationship of trust and psychological safety, allowing you to go deeper and further in your practice

  • If you wish to go down the accreditation route at some point, your application will require evidence from your supervisor. Please note though that supervision is not just something to do as a requirement for Accreditation. I cannot advocate enough for the benefits of supervision for it’s own sake. Accreditation applications seek evidence of CPD and Supervision as they are important cornerstones of our coaching practice.

  • 1:1 Coach supervision may be a more expensive option.

Group Supervision

  • Allows you to access collective wisdom and collective learning

  • Build your tribe of coaches and a supportive forum. Coaching can be a lonely business

  • Sometimes a more cost effective option

A blended approach to supervision:

You may consider a blend of 1:1 and Group Supervision which complement each other.
